My first co-op was at Coravin, a company that makes a wine preservation device allowing users to enjoy wine from the bottle by the glass, without risking oxidation of the remaining wine. I was able to gain experience with product development while at Coravin, since there were multiple projects all in different phases throughout my time there. I gained insight into manufacturing constraints, how to balance user demands with engineering constraints, and how to design rigorous test procedures for product validation. Additionally, I learned about the world of luxury products, specifically wine, and the different set of constraints bounding products in that category.
